The Lamp Recyclers computer recycling
program is designed to divert hazardous materials from landfills.
In Wisconsin and other states, not
only will landfills refuse waste computers and CRTs (cathode ray tubes),
but these computers are subject to full hazardous waste regulation
if landfilled or incinerated.

Obsolete electronics represent a
continually growing waste stream.
As technology advances, the volume of
obsolete electronic equipment continues to grow at an astonishing rate.
By 2010, about 1 billion PCs are projected to be retired, according
to the National Safety Council.
Obsolete electronics contain hazardous
or toxic substances.
Some electronic products (notably those
with cathode ray tubes-or CRTs, circuit boards, batteries, and mercury
switches) contain hazardous or toxic materials such as lead, mercury,
cadmium, chromium, and some types of flame retardants, and do so in
amounts that may cause them to test hazardous under Federal law.
In particular, the glass screens, or
CRTs, in computer monitors and televisions can contain as much as 27
percent lead. Some estimate that since many batteries (such as car batteries)
have started to be removed from waste, electronic products represent
the largest remaining contributor of heavy metals to the solid waste
stream. There is concern, particularly at the state and local levels,
that products containing these constituents might pose some environmental
risks if they are not properly managed at end-of-life.

Recycling obsolete electronic equipment
is easy with Lamp Recyclers. We run regular pickup routes throughout
the Midwest US in our trucks. Our customers simply call us to request
a pickup of material, and are then scheduled for pickup on the next
route in that area. We run regular routes in both straight trucks and
semi-trailers, so no pickup is too large! For pickups outside of our
vehicle service area, we employ commercial common carrier transporters.
As long as you can palletize your obsolete equipment, no pickup is too
far away.
